But it was a journey out to Lightning Ridge, a stone’s throw from Moree, that truly changed the way I understood this place.

Standing on that country, I was in awe of the deep red earth beneath my feet. The land felt raw, alive and unapologetic. There is a wildness to Lightning Ridge, not just in the landscape, but in the way people live and create there. An innovative, resilient spirit runs through the town, grounded in connection to land and community. It echoed something I had been slowly learning since arriving in Moree, that beauty here is bold, layered and deeply felt.

This work responds to that experience. The colours are heightened, drawing from the intensity of the red dirt, the heat shimmering across the land, and the lush bursts of life that emerge against seemingly harsh conditions. Forms intertwine and press against one another, reflecting both the toughness and softness that coexist in this environment. What might appear rugged at first glance holds moments of tenderness, growth and joy.
