Low Tide Cotton - 3 Piece Set

Since moving to Moree, I’ve been captivated by the vast floodplains and cotton fields of the region, landscapes that are a complete juxtaposition to the coastal world I grew up in. As a child, I walked to school watching whales breach on the horizon, and my first job was on my dad’s fishing boat. To now find myself surrounded by flat, endless fields instead of shifting tides continues to boggle and inspire me.

In my work, I playfully merge these contrasting environments in my mind’s eye. A roadside view of cotton in bloom becomes, to me, a seascape: fields of white transformed into the froth of low tide, shadows across the rows becoming currents pulling beneath the surface. Through colour and line, I seek to capture that sense of movement, of waves and wind, of life flowing through the land.

This blending of landscapes is both literal and symbolic. The cotton fields represent the grounded, agricultural rhythms of Moree, while the ocean embodies the fluidity and openness of my coastal upbringing. By allowing these spaces to collapse into one another, I explore how memory and imagination can reshape the way we perceive the present. What might seem static and still, the endless rows of cotton, becomes dynamic, full of energy and possibility when viewed through this lens.

Playful pinks and shifting tonal layers act as a bridge between land and sea, softness and strength, memory and reality. Each brushstroke is a small attempt to reconcile these worlds: the pull of the tide I once knew, and the vast horizon of cotton that now surrounds me.
